The Sociedade de Cirurgia Moçambique/ Surgical Society of Mozambique (SSMoz) is a constituent member of COSECSA and is based in Maputo, Mozambique.

The primary objective of the SSMoz is to advance education, training, standards, research and practice in surgical care in Mozambique. Training is provided across Mozambique in a range of specialities and sub-specialities. SSMoz delivers a common surgical training programme with a common examination and an internationally recognized surgical qualification.

SSMoz works to foster a culture of continuous training and research amongst it members. It aims to set standards and provide training for surgeons practicing in often rural and resource-limited healthcare facilities.

Dr Prem Yohannan

MBBS, MS(Orthopaedic Surgery), FCS(ECSA)

Prem Yohannan is the Country Representative for Mozambique. He studied at the Armed Forces Medical College, University of Pune, India, from where he completed his MBBS degree in 1996. After a couple of years working as a general practitioner, he did his Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery at the King George's Medical College, Lucknow. At the turn of the millennium, he volunteered to work in Mozambique. He currently works for the Ministry of Health, Government of Mozambique as a senior Specialist Surgeon and Director of Post-graduate Medical Education in Orthopaedic Surgery and Trauma. His interests are in Joint Replacements and Trauma surgery. He represents Mozambique on the COSECSA Council and examines on behalf of the College.

Dr. Antonio luis Assis da Costa

António L.Assis da Costa is the Country Representative for Mozambique. He studied at Carol DaVila University inBucharest-Romania, from where he completed his MBBS degree in 1994. He did his MMed in Orthopeadics and Traumatology inthe year 2000 in Mozambique, since when he has worked at the Maputo Central Hospital as a specialist in Orthopaedic surgery.He is involved in both under- and post graduate training at theEduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique. He is Head of Departament of Orthopeadics at Maputo Central Hospital since2012.  He is a senior member of Beareu of health at the Ministry of Health. He was head of Emergency Departament at HCMfrom 2005 to 2012. He has an  active interest in generalOrthopaedic Trauma. He represents Mozambique on the COSECSA council and examines on behalf of the college.
