Operation Smile and the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) are collaborating to provide a 5-year scholarship programme to 15 trainees wishing to study Plastic Surgery within the COSECSA training programme.

Objectives

  • To increase Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Density in Sub-Saharan Africa by:
    • Supporting Plastic Surgery Training
    • Providing Cleft Surgery training and education to improve access to cleft care

Advancing Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Capacity in sub-Saharan Africa

Caring for the injured is essential. It must be a priority in the development of strategies to curb the devastating effects of orthopaedic injuries.

To help address this problem, the AO Alliance and the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) have developed a scholarship programme to support orthopaedic surgeons in Training, help them complete the Programme by Examination, and advance Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery Capacity in sub-Saharan Africa in COSECSA member countries.

The Lindsay Stewart Prize is available only to young surgeons who are in a COSECSA Training Programme  and who wish to present a scientific paper at the COSECSA-ASEA Scientific Conference held in December of each year.

The prize is for £1,000 sterling from which one or more awards will be made to cover fares to the conference venue, accommodation and conference registration fees.

COSECSA in collaboration with American College of Surgeons (ACS) are glad to announce that; The ACS-COSECSA Women scholars programme is now open to senior female surgical residents who are preparing to take this fellowship level examination in 2021.


The award should be used for fellowship examination expenses, including fellowship examination, examination travel and accommodation, graduation, and five-year membership dues to COSECSA and ACS

This is a five year assessment of performance of all examinations which includes the MCS and FCS results. Selection Criteria and Process

COSECSA will award 4 grants to trainees to conduct research studies that measure the impact of COSECSA on healthcare in the region. Each grant is for $2,500.These grants are designed to encourage early-career researchers and not for surgeons who are already well established in research. Closing date extended to 30th June 2019. Surgeons of distinction are chosen as Travelling Fellows who travel to the member countries of the Association to lecture, teach and offer advice. In alternate years he or she will be a surgeon from the COSECSA region. Guidelines.
