COSECSA, in partnership with the AO Alliance, is pleased to announce a special scholarship aimed at empowering women pursuing careers in orthopaedic surgery. This initiative supports the advancement of female surgeons across East, Central and Southern Africa by providing financial and academic support throughout their training.
About the Scholarship
As surgeons play a crucial role in improving patient care, this scholarship seeks to uplift and expand the representation of women in orthopaedic surgery. The programme targets six (6) women who wish to pursue Orthopaedic Surgery within a COSECSA-accredited training programme, beginning January 2026.
Application Requirements
Applicants must provide the following:

Completed COSECSA programme application form

Proof of work permit (if training outside the home country)

A letter of support from the current COSECSA Programme Director

An acceptance letter from a COSECSA-accredited training facility

A personal statement and updated CV
Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Financial Support Includes:
This scholarship is co-funded by the AO Alliance and Hirschmann Stiftung, and administered by COSECSA. Covered costs include:

FCS programme entry/enrollment fee

Fellowship (FCS) examination costs

Graduation and fellowship registration fees

Living allowance of USD 12,000 annually for 3 years, payable bi-annually
