Global Surgery Research Methodology Course – Online Program 2026

The College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) is pleased to invite applications for the Global Surgery Research Methodology Course 2026, a comprehensive online training program designed to strengthen research capacity among healthcare professionals across the region.

The course will run from 28 August to 23 October 2026, with weekly live online sessions held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM EAT.

About the Course

More than five billion people worldwide lack access to timely, safe, affordable, and quality surgical care, with the greatest burden falling on low- and middle-income countries. To address the need for stronger locally driven evidence, COSECSA has developed this interactive and practice-oriented course to equip participants with essential research skills and support high-quality surgical research across the region.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify priority research questions relevant to global surgery and the regional context.
  • Design and conduct high-quality surgical research using appropriate study methods.
  • Develop competitive research proposals to secure funding.
  • Effectively disseminate research findings to inform clinical practice, policy, and surgical systems strengthening.

  6. Linear and logistic regression
  7. Research proposal development
  8. Research ethics, publication and journal selection
  9. Peer review and research dissemination.

Training Format

The programme combines self-paced online learning with live interactive webinars led by experienced faculty from COSECSA and partner institutions. Participants will engage in discussions, complete learning activities, and receive feedback from peers and faculty.

Certification

The course is accredited for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits. Participants who meet the attendance and course completion requirements will receive a Certificate of Completion and CPD credits.
